Eric Lempel: PSP Firmware v5.02 available shortly
PSP - PSP Hacks,PSP Exploits, PSP Homebrew
PSP - Image 1Eric Lempel at the PlayStation Blog has posted a quick updated  saying that the PSP Firmware v5.02 will be available shortly. How short is this 'shortly'?  We don't know for sure. But knowing how they like to sneak up on us, we wouldn't be surprised if this lands in a couple of hours. Or next week.

v5.02 will supposedly improve system software stability during use of some features, including the PlayStation Store.

I just had to ask. You think this could be their response to Datel's PSP 3000 hack? gasp

Alek of DA Forums skeptical of Datel hack
PSP - PSP Hacks,PSP Exploits, PSP Homebrew
PSP - Image 1No doubt that word on Datel's uh-mazing "hack" on the PSP 3000 with their for-sale battery has quickly spread like wildfire across the internet. But amidst the trepidation and controlled excitement, most of us eagerly await what guys in the know say about this.

We've got a statement right here, from Alek of the Dark_AleX forums, and he's obviously not gonna go into a mad rush to buy one of those things. Here's why:

You might have seen a new Battery that has come into the market, as always with a price and with a good advertising program...

Well, this post is just to answer some mails that i've recieved.

1. To have a LED indicator ON, doesn't means that you can install cfw or hack anything. Remember 088v3 mobos? Right.

2. It's spreading like a timebomb that it can be hacked and so on. Well, what any user can see is an interesting campaign to promote an article that is not yet released. It would be interesting to see.. how about an old "hello world" like on Noobz time, instead of a "buy today" call?

3. Just to remember all this things up, LED indicator ON and nothing on screen means directly what Dark_AleX explained here about the preIPL.

Would be an interesting step, indeed, in case that the protection on 3k would be sort of a signal encryption or a change of protocol instead of just a change of the battery pin communication system; so, until more proofs come into play, i would not definetly go in a rush to buy it xD.

We'll be keeping you posted on more updates on this one as they come rolling in. In the meantime, hold your horses and keep it locked here in QJ.

PSP homebrew game: Powernoid v1

Powernoid v1 - Image 1

Art has been a mainstay around here. We've seen his many applications float around, from Time Baby to Audio Mechanica. It's rare to find him releasing a homebrew game though - Pointless Pacman was one, and then there was that ultra cool Laser Invaders Go!Cam game. Ha! Today, we have Powernoid v1.

For something pieced together from scratch in two days, it's quite a keeper. Powernoid is Art's take on Breakout/Araknoid clones, with his own power-ups. This being the first release, there isn't much of a changelog. That doesn't mean we can't have bulleted lists though! Here are the controls:
  • D-pad, Analog: move the paddle
  • X: fire (with right power-up)
  • Home: pause menu, see current score and stage
Check out the documentation included in the archive for more info!

Soul Eater becomes anime fighting game
PSP - Latest PSP News

If an anime gets popular enough in Japan, you know it will undoubtedly get a 2D fighting game on the PSP. That's just how things work. So, Soul Eater, Japan's latest obsession with death gods, was an obvious next-in-line candidate for PSP fighting game treatment.

Not much is known about this adaptation, but we doubt much more needs to be known. Check out Famitsu for screenshots -- as seems standard for PSP fighting games, the screens sure do look pretty. Now, the question remains: what are the odds this will ever see light of day out of Japan?

Sony: LittleBigPlanet PSP, Rock Band PSP, Guitar Hero PSP all possible

PSP-3000 - Image 1

So you all probably know about the rumors and speculation surrounding this whole LittleBigPlanet PSP reincarnation, in some form or other - but what does Sony PSP brand manager John Koller have to say about it? Talking to MTV Multiplayer, he didn't deny it, he didn't confirm it either; but quite frankly, he says it's possible because LBP is PlayStation-friendly, overall.
